AUTHOR VISIT
New Brigden School’s Junior High class had the opportunity to work with author Mrs. Jacquline Guest on the morning of September 23. She quickly hooked her audience by offering them a guaranteed way to improve their grades. She then proceeded to show the students how all pieces of writing can be improved upon by simply focusing on three main areas – the skeleton (5 w’s), the dress-up, five senses and the “bling” (choice words such as adjectives, verbs, grammar, punctuation and capitalization). The students were engaged for the entire time she spoke to them. The session ended with students creating their own piece of writing using the tips of Mrs. Guest. She was thrilled with the results and declared the students were on their way to becoming great writers.
Mrs. Guest had a similar workshop with the Grade 4/5/6 class.
After lunch the whole school sat in on an excellent presentation. It was very informative and interactive. She stressed many times to the students the importance of “READING.”
